newNearly half of the 10,000 expert migrants who apply for NewZealand area move to Auckland after they get their residence permit, to the regions. Now, NewZealand has added the necessary twist to immigration rules and has decided to steer the immigrants to the other regions. They promise people migrating extra points for residency, if they take up jobs in the region instead of Auckland.

The new rules declared ensure that the migrants are lured to regions other than Auckland and the authorities promise extra points for the migrants so that they can reach their 100-point threshold that is compulsory to submit an application for residency. This was announced by Michael Woodhouse the Immigration Minister who said that there were certain roles that are getting difficult to fill in the regions, and the migrants will get employment in the regions along with benefits.

He stated “While there will be more incentives for skilled migrants to move to the regions, they will now need to stay there for a minimum of 12 months.” The old rules insisted a period of 3 month employment but now this is due for a change. Woodhouse insisted that “These changes will contribute to a better balance in our immigration settings and will allow regions to access more of the people, skills and investment they need to build the local growth needed to support jobs and higher incomes.”

NZ has been welcoming skilled immigrants with open arms and this includes visitors and students. The annual immigration trends of the Givernment have revealed that there is an 8% increase in foreigner’s influx to New Zealand on the basis of skills. The local NewZealanders are not capable of getting employment in these skilled areas. New Zealand demands skilled laborers and after the saddened global financial scenario, now the region sees an increase in immigration. The migrants who want residency here belong to mostly America, India, China and Germany and they travel this side with a work visa in their hands.

The report confirmed visa approvals for international students has increased by almost 16 percent, while visitors, were around 1.49 million that is about 11 percent more from last year. The data does not include the Australians. The growth had the contribution of online applications for visitors, work and student visas.

“The region got a net migration population boost of 6,400 in the 2014/2015 year, and has seen a steady increase in the number of arrivals since 2011. University students are returning to the region, with the number of new students up 20 percent on last year,” confirms the reports quoting, acting head of Immigration New Zealand, Steve McGill.
